Carlisle looking for playoff hopes and share of SWBL title...

Carlisle entered last night's game with a ton of implications.  A win would keep the Indians in a potential share of the SWBL Buckeye Division crown.  A win could also seal their fate in making it to the playoffs in the Division IV, Region 16 playoffs for the first time since 2004.

So all our Carlisle Indians did was make a HUGE statement that they deserved both.  Our Carlisle Indians hosted the Dixie Greyhounds of New Lebanon, Ohio and beat them 41-12.

The Ground Attack of Nick "The Real Deal" McGill and Jordan "Juke Ya" Jacobs combined for 185 yards rushing and four touchdowns.   McGill accounting for 112 yards and two touchdowns.  Jake "Gibby" Gibson rushed for a 27 yard touchdown and completed 7-15 passing for 107 yards and a touchdown.

The Defense was awesome again today, holding the Dixie offense down all night and forcing key turnovers.  The most important turnover coming as Dixie had a 10 play drive to start the second half before coughing the ball up to the Indians.  The very next play McGill took in a romp for a touchdown to create separation in the score box.

Carlisle ended the season with a (8-2, 5-1) record.  Monroe Hornets won last night over Northridge and Waynesville Spartans had not trouble with the Madison Mohawks.  That leaves all three teams as Tri-Champs of the SWBL.

This week will post the regular season stats and season leaders.  Stay tuned!!

Coach vs. Player in College Alumni Game

Kyle England and Carlisle Varsity Coach Brad Sizemore

Brad Sizemore and Kyle England hooked up together again except this time Coach Sizemore wasn't coaching England up.  Kyle a current 1st basemen for Eastern Kentucky (former Indian stand out pitcher) and Sizemore a former player of EKU and Current Carlisle Varsity Baseball Coach displayed their skills against each other on Sunday Oct. 18 in the EKU alumni baseball game held at the refurbished Turkey Hughes Field.

The game was won by the current Colonels team 10-4 over the alumni team. Kyle went 1 for 2 at the plate and a stolen base while playing a new posistion of 1st base during the game.  This was the first time Kyle has got a chance to play in a game since having succesful shoulder surgery last March. Kyle is still on a limited throwing program but should be at full strength and back on the mound pitching by the start of the 2010 EKU season.

7th-8th Girls Soccer heading to tourney....

The Carlisle  SAY Girls Kicker team Gross Lumber (Blue)  finished out the SAY regular season with a tie for First Place with Clinton Massie team 1. The team almost had a complete shut out season. Until right at the end, when they played Clinton Massie 1 for a second time. This time giving up their first and only loss just giving up a couple goals. Splitting the wins with 1 and 1 against the Massie team.  This Carlisle team ROCKED. I can't wait to see these girls and the girls from the other Carlisle team in high school. These were two really good teams.  The Gross Lumber team will now go on to the SAY Miami Valley Tournaments hosted this year in our very own Carlisle. The tournaments start October 31 and will continue on November 1 and November 7. Good Luck to this hard working team and their coaches, Susan Alcorn and Kelly Henry.

JH & HS Cross Country Teams excelling in 2009

A note from Coach Eric Hodge:

This season has been a pretty good one for our cross country program, we have had 5 to 6 boys all year (which is up from 1-2 last year) and 1 girl competing individually. Since the beginning of the season I have seen a lot of progress from all of my runners.

Our team leader is Mike Burgette who just recently ran his best time of the season at 18:58, so he is peaking at the right time of the year. I look for him to be 1st or 2nd team all league in our half of the SWBL. Also doing well for the boys team are Sophomore John Pope who is our #2 runner and Freshman Josh Young who is our #3 is coming off of an injury and should be back at full strength for the district meet on Oct. 24th. Clint Kohl has been a solid contributor for us and freshman Blake Butler has been improving at every meet.

Our lone female runner Ashley Gierzak has done a great job this season and has other coaches from around the league talking about her improvements, she has dropped her personal best time nearly two minutes and should be a 1st or 2nd team all league runner.

For the junior high team I have 4 girl runners; Shelbie Elliott, Elizabeth Alcorn, Kariss Alcorn, and Rachel Anderson. Kariss and Elizabeth should both be top 10 runners in the league and have a bright future in cross country ahead of them.

I am very proud of these kids and how hard they have worked for me, I'm trying to build a program at Carlisle and with the help of these kids I can see that we will have a solid team in a short period of time.

Carlisle runs past Madison for Homecoming Victory....

The rainy nasty night on Laughlin Field and the absence of main tail back Nick McGill, the Homecoming game versus (2-4) Madison could have provided some worry.  But enter Jordan Jacobs and a typical bruising Indian defense and Carlisle produces a 34-0 Homecoming win over the visiting Mohawks.

Jordan "Juke Ya" Jacobs offensively single handedly took down the Mohawks.  He totaled 183 yards and scored four times.  Two of the scores coming off of punt returns.  One for 47 yards in the 1st quarter.

The Indians defense was HUGE tonight, holding the shutout against the Mohawks, getting strong play in the red zone, and Kelly LaForce, Jake Langdon and Emerick providing a safety.

Carlisle improves to 6-1, 2-1 in the Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division, while the Mohawks fall to 2-5, 0-3 SWBL Buckeye Division.

Monroe used some trick plays and gutsy calls againt the Indians....Follow up to last night article.

Our Carlisle Indians marched into the Monroe Hornets stadium with high expectations last night.  But in two quick trick plays the Monroe Hornets stole the game from the Indians and took control of the SWBL Buckeye Division for now.

Nick McGill rushed for 119 yards on 23 carries and throwing a pass to Josh Koogle for an early touchdown.  Nick got the handoff from Gibson and rushed around the end pulled up and passed into the end zone for the score with a little trickery!  Jake Gibson powered the ball in on a QB Keeper from the 1 yard line for Carlisle's second score.  Kris Garrett knocked in both extra points.  So through the second quarter Monroe scores a few times and it is 14-14 dead locked.

Then with 3 seconds left in the game and the Carlisle coaches doing an excellent job of trying to manage the clock Kris Garrett steps and boots in about a 25 yard FG to take the lead 17-14 at halftime.

What a game!!

After haltime it became a defensive and special team battle.  Monroe had the ball to start off but was stuffed and forced to punt.  Carlisle again same circumstance and had to punt.  But as Carlisle looked to punt from about their 10 yard line the punt is blocked by Monroe.  Monroe takes over on the 10  and on a gutsy fourth down call on the 1 yard line Monroe fails to put the ball into the end zone turnover on downs to the Indians.  The third quarter was just an intense chess match with both defenses making great plays.

In the third quarter though after I believe their first or second series Nick McGill, Carlisle's leading rusher, sat on the sideline with the trainers and eventually that is where he would stay the remainder of the game with a bag of ice wrapped around his knee.  We hope to find out more about Nick early this week.

The start of the fourth quarter saw about the same back and forth smash mouth running by both teams.  But then the Monroe Hornets got the ball on their own 9 ate up about 9 minutes of the play clock and 19 plays later was in the end zone with only 2 minutes left in the game.  The Hornets used a fake punt on 4th down near midfield to run up the middle for a 9 yard gain and a first down.  The Hornets again inside Carlisle's 40 were facing 4th down and they drew up a play similar to Carlisle's first half scoring play.  The Hornets half back took the pitch and a pulled up and a threw a strike back to the Hornets QB for an 18 yard pick and the set up for the game winning score.

With about 2 minutes left in the game the Indians took a short punt and Jake Gibson threw two passes to the right for a first down.  Then Gibson looked to the left and Jordan Jacobs just missed a pass through his hands.  Then on 2nd down the Hornets sent the house on QB Jake Gibson and he released the ball into the middle and caught.  But a flag negated the pass and catch sending them to a loss of down and 3 and 12.  Jake Gibson on 3rd down tried to pull away from the pressure of the Hornets defense was brought down.  On fourth down, the Hornets shut down an attempt of a trick play themselves by tackling Jordan Jacobs for a loss.

And the game ends on a few kneels by Monroe 21-17!

Carlisle moves to 5-1, 1-1 and Monroe moves to 5-1, 2-0.

What an unbelievable game!!  GO INDIANS!!

Carlisle versus Monroe down to the wire....

Our Carlisle Indians traveled to Monroe to take on the Hornets.  Monroe was celebrating their homecoming night and Carlisle was looking for 6-0.

Carlisle held a 17-14 lead for the entire second half but Monroe marched down the length of the field and scored with only 2 minutes on the clock.  And the Monroe Hornets win an absolute heartbreaker against our Indians.  21-17.

More coverage to come by morning.

Great job Indians!!
